Writing a Report
Or, rather, I am procrastinating in writing a report by writing this blog entry.
What I should be doing is writing a report on a project we’ve been doing at university on the variation of beach sand and other sediment around Wellington harbour.
A topic I will now translate into terms everyone can understand: I am writing a report on how the scum and rubbish that flows out of the rivers and gets washed along the ocean floor, ends up on the beaches around Wellington.
It sounds boring. It is to a degree. But for some reason I feel compelled to write this report to the best of my ability, because I’ve become sick of being a B student when I’m actually just a lazy A student.
Maybe by displaying my academic prestige on this report, I can prove to myself that I am what I think I am, and I can prove to someone, somewhere, that I’m worth taking on as a MSc student.
I’ll get back to reading my reference material now.

I don’t think I knew you were a geology geek. Or maybe I did, and that’s how I found your blog in the first place… can’t really remember now.

by Yorrike @ 2005-04-22 0518 UTCI’m a geek to a lot of things, but after years of, well, procrastinating, I decided to get a degree and I’m now in my final year of a BSc in Geology :)
And yes, I have experienced the same cleaning bug as you. Like a cleaning leech stuck to the back of my neck. Whispering into my ear and threatening me with the prospect of burrowing into my brain should I even think about doing the things I need to, rather than cleaning.
Maybe one day I’ll get off my arse and get things done, but what fun would university be without the huge adrenaline rushes associated with going all night on a project you should have done weeks beforehand? Eh? EH? Yeah.
On an aside, it’s nice to see someone I don’t know is reading what I write. And a geologist too! Rock on!
